I became a Reiki Master after first using Reiki for my own personal healing. In June of 1996 I gave birth
to my fifth child. Shortly thereafter, I realized I was having a difficult time holding him. I couldn’t
imagine why my arms weren’t cooperating. It seems that after holding babies and young children for eight
years, they should have been stronger instead of weaker. Eventually much of what I was doing caused pain
and I was sleeping all the time. Something was definitely wrong. Turns out, I had Fibromyalgia. After
being diagnosed I looked for ways to get better.
The first was to get on a good supplement & get rid of all toxins in my home, at which point I chose to buy
from a company called Maleleuca*. I have been using these products for over eleven years and have not
been disappointed.
The second thing that I was drawn to was Reiki. I enrolled
in a Reiki I class with Karen Mitchell* in St. Charles, IL. I
continued instruction from her and her husband, Steve,
and became a Reiki Master in 2003. During the Master
attunement, I was given a message from my guides that I
am here to help bring the new energy into this world. Kind
of cool, but I didn’t quite know what that meant or how to do
it…. I just knew it was mine to do.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE working with energy. We are all energy beings and are influenced by the energetics
of our body and the world around us at all times. I wanted to continue to learn more about how this
invisible field works. In early 2005, I took instruction from Mary Price-Olsen,* of A Magnificent Voyage,
in Madison, WI, to become an EMF Balancing Technique Practitioner.
I have continued to expand my work with energy fields. In February, 2007, I started taking classes with
Tantra Maat*, of Metapoints. I am presently involved in her Practitioner of Consciousness program. I
highly recommend her teleclasses and telecalls, which she offers both free, as well as for a fee.
My energy work has changed over the years. I’ve
come into my own way of using it. I have realized
that I work as a clear channel for healing. I believe an
illness has to be dealt with at an emotional, mental and
spiritual level; all levels that Reiki engages. What
continues to fascinate me is how illness has a way of
facilitating spiritual growth and movement.
Another incredible, life-altering, on-going form of enjoyment
has been process painting. One day in 2005, I walked into
the Studio for Experiential Art* and never left. I’ve been
attending Thursday morning ‘classes,’ facilitated by Deb Purdy,
ever since. The practices that we use in class are the same
practices I apply to daily living. They help me move out of fear
and into living a life truer to the essence of the person I am.
It’s been an incredible experience and I am deeply grateful
for Deb and her loving way of facilitating me through the cobwebs.
My way to health and happiness has been nothing less than a
sacred journey. I have re-examined beliefs and let go of the ones that weren't necessarily mine. I have
become reacquainted with old friends, which has added a depth to our relationships that wasn't always
there. New friends have come into my life, many of whom I view as teachers. My friendships no longer
revolve around discussing the weather or the kids' sporting events.
We're able to share and reach into each others hearts but also enjoy the peace that comes
with silence.
It has been my experience that once we are open
and connected, everything around us appears to be
engaging with us. The universe is an amazing place.
